velyn and Mitch were set to be married in the rolling vineyards of beautiful wine country, Healdsburg, on June 20, 2020. As the story goes, COVID-19 hit the US and everything was shut down, including their wedding. However, the suite had already been designed with much thought and detail.
Evelyn and Mitchel first contacted me after seeing examples of my work on Instagram. After speaking over the phone, I knew they were going to be the perfect clients to work with! They are both from Northern California and they met at Stanford during their junior year of college. They absolutely love everything California has to offer: the nature trails, exploring different vineyards, and eating good food, so including these elements in their suite was a must!
This custom wedding invitation suite included hand-painted watercolor elements throughout: their venue location, a custom California map, a wedding crest, a small wine bottle and glass, and the large cork tree where their ceremony was set to take place. For the wedding map, I illustrated and painted important landmarks to the couple: Stanford University, Healdsburg, the Bay Area, Berkeley, and The Golden Gate Bridge.
The Reply card showcased the large oak tree that was located at the ceremony site as well as a painting of olive branches creating a border to frame out the information. The couple was planning to have a large reception located under lots of oaks, and then transition to the afterparty at another local vineyard.
The envelopes for the suite were set to be burgundy, adorned with white ink calligraphy addressing, and beautifully sealed with an olive wreath wax seal.
What a dream these invitations were, and, if only they had been seen by their guests!
